March First Friday
March First Friday is March 5th, 5 to 9pm. Check out this month’s show, “The Collection” by Edgardo Garcia II, featuring the firsts in new series Photographic Film, Movie Film, the Dreaming of Love Dreamscape series and the Koa Paintings. A collection of original oils, graphite, mixed media, limited editions, open editions and a special collaborative series with his brother Walfrido will be unveiled for the first time to the public. Show runs February 19 thru March 19. Edgardo will be doing live painting demonstrations from 5 to 9pm on First Friday. About Edgardo Garcia II: Edgardo Garcia II was born in the Philippines, raised in the Bay Area but started his professional career in art in Hawaii. He’s the youngest son of self taught artist, Edgardo F. Garcia, who was once a fixture at Turtle Bay for over 10 years. He’s also the brother to one of Hawaii’s premiere sea and landscape artists, Walfrido, whose art is featured in Wyland Galleries. Edgardo II considers his art reality based but fantasy driven. Wine for First Friday will be provided once again by our friends from Wine, the Experience at Kilohana Square. To stay updated on all their upcoming events and latest specials, follow “Wine, the Experience” on Facebook or check out their website at http://www.winetheexperience.com
St. Patrick’s Day & Slow Art Friday
Mid-Month Fun in Chinatown
You can’t beat Chinatown for St. Patrick’s Day. Stop by our gallery on your way to Murphy’s St. Patty’s Day block party or visit any of the many fun and funky establishments that will be celebrating in the area. We’ll be open during our regular business hours and then we’ll meet you for a few green beers!
And Save the Date for Slow Art Friday, March 17. Slow Art Friday is the new slower paced alternative to First Friday. Slow Art Friday seeks to to encourage a shift towards slowing down, taking time to enjoy the moment, and fostering deeper connections to art, to people, and to life. It is inspired by the “Slow Movement”, a force that is sweeping the nation in response to the increase of stress, disconnect, and “time poverty” permeating our culture. This Slow Art Friday will be a soft opening for our next featured artists, the Kindergarten thru First Grade Students of Hanahauoli School. The show will include the work of Peggy’s 6-year old granddaughter, mixed-media artist Indiana Chun. The artist reception for the show will be April First Friday, April 2nd.
